RECENT FAVORITES {V.2}
A collection of pop culture things that sparked joy for me in February.
Unlike January, which asked for my head on a platter, February slowed down for me. We were on the same wavelength week in and week out that I started to feel I was going to lose momentum and we would disconnect, but we didn’t—this angel held me down and here we are, so thank you, Miss Feb!—and congrats to me for not crashing out at least this once—matter of fact, long may this continue.
Welcome back, loggers. On your screen is the second edition of Chryse’s Recent Favorites. How cool, right? Yeah, I can’t believe it either, but let’s get into it.
It is either the month’s content was lightweight or I did not consume a lot, but make no mistakes, the fall/winter 2025 fashion season is still in full bloom, and we are currently at Milan—you might want to keep up with our notes tab on Substack.
#1: What I listened to
The month for me went by so fast that the only audio I had time for were three albums: The Weeknd’s ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow,’ Drake and Partynextdoor’s ‘Some Sexy Songs 4 U,’ and Simone’s ‘Magnet,’ as well as one podcast: Jola Ayeye and Feyikemi Abudu’s ‘I Said What I Said.’ I don’t think I missed out on any more vibes if you ask me.
#2: What I read
I picked up Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah for the third time to prepare myself for the newest addition to the author’s magnificent portfolio, Dream Count. The book will be released on March 4th and will be accompanied by a UK and USA tour starting tomorrow, March 1st. You can purchase tickets to the tour in the ‘book tour' story highlight on the author's Instagram page.
I read too many magazine articles, but my top two were Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s on Vogue and Lewis Hamilton’s on Time.
Many Mentors, Fisayo Longe’s Business Newsletter. I am going to need you—creative or not—to get with the program!
Wise words from Tracee Ellis Ross. “Style is about how you do…how you live…your kindness is a style…” P.S. A round of applause for my queen’s walk at Marni FW25.
#3: What I watched
Drop this and go watch Paradise on Hulu right now! I am few minutes into the 7th episode, which everyone swears is the best TV episode in history—and guess what, I believe them.
Court of Gold on Netflix. It is a six-part documentary on some men’s basketball teams at the 2024 Paris Olympics: USA, France, Serbia, and Canada.
Two Nollywood titles currently in cinemas: Summer Rain (I shared its release in last month’s edition of Recent Favorites) and Reel Love. P.S. This Timini Egbuson (actor) and Kayode Kasum (director) duo is quickly turning into a powerhouse, and I am just—proud.
Coming Soon
Viola Davis is the president of the USA, at least for 2 hours! G20, a Prime Video original starring Davis as President Sutton, will be available for streaming from April 10. The moment I saw Marsai Martin (plays Viola’s daughter) and Anthony Anderson (plays Viola's husband) in the trailer, best believe I crossed my fingers so hard in hopes that Miles Brown popped out as Marsai’s brother—but they didn't let my delusion come to pass. How greedy! I’ve missed that lad on screen. In much better news, I cannot wait for the Annalise Keating vs. Homelander matchup. This is entertainment!
Shondaland strikes again with an incoming television series, The Residence, on Netflix from March 20. 132 rooms. 157 suspects. 1 dead body. Tune in come release day to find out the killer—or at least start your investigation.
#4: Photo Galore (but make it magazine covers and features)

#5: Style Obsession
My style vibe for the month was a bit Valentine-inspired—for obvious reasons. It was feminine, soft, monochromatic, chic, and colorful.
February gave me the best style icons: Steph Hui at fashion week, Ava Black for everyday style, Denola Grey at events and fashion week, and a combination of Colman Domingo and Cynthia Erivo on red carpets. Love the mood board down!
Some other red carpet looks I liked were especially from Danielle Deadwyler—the Wayman and Micah styling duo have been doing wonders with her looks; from the 67th Grammys namely, Cardi B in custom Roberto Cavalli, Doechii in 5 custom Thom Browne outfits, Lady Gaga in Samuel Lewis, Benson Boone in Dolce & Gabbana, and Queen Latifah in Rahul Mishra; the men at SAG Awards were equally serving in suits (very shocking) and also did Anna Sawai in a custom Armani Prive dress; shout out to all the women at Essence’s 2025 Black Women in Hollywood event a couple hours ago—you all looked delicious; and an honorable mention to Giancarlo Esposito ‘cause he’s been looking good and blessing us with just enough content.
I enjoyed a lot of FW25 looks showcased in February, but specifically and thoroughly; Thom Browne, Khaite, Jane Wade, Diesel, Ulla Johnson, Burberry, Emporio Armani, Dilara Findikoglu, Christian Siriano, Max Mara, Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, and Kim Shui.
Teyana Taylor teamed up with Victoria’s Secret for a 'very sexy' edit. Love this so much for her and for VS too, because they couldn't have chosen a more perfect partner.
Another year, another Lagos Polo event, and trust Veuve Clicquot and Redrick PR to bring the media and entertainment stars out in very stunning outfits.
And of course, bank on Nigerians to go about doing iconic s**t; from Ayra Starr walking the Di Pesta FW25 runway, modeling for New Balance × JD Sports 740’s, and winning 2 MOBO awards to Tems winning her second Grammy, becoming a co-owner of San Diego FC, and performing at the O2 Arena for Aston Martin's livery unveiling of the 2025 F1, Yemi Alade attending the Grammys (as a first-time nominee) in the most stunning Edo bridal staple, Lisa Folawiyo, Eniafe Momodu, Tayo Aina, and Grace Amaku speaking at Harvard Business School on ‘Weaving the Future: Creating Africa’s Fashion Blueprint from Within’ and ‘Transforming African Tourism: Culture & Collaboration at the Core,’ Designers Tolu Coker and Torishéju Dumi making it to the semi-finals of the 2025 LVMH prize, and Osas Ighodaro representing NBA Nigeria and Africa for what was tagged a “crossover“ at the NBA All-Star Weekend in San Francisco—my girl dripped in Nigerian clothing brands like 2207 by TBally, Moelle, and Medlin, all styled by Emmanuel Goodnews.
Kai Collective launched their first-ever jeans on 28th February, comprising 8 sizes (XS to 4XL), 2 colors (blue and yellow), and 3 lengths (regular, petite, and tall). The campaign featured a soundtrack by Brazy, ‘Good Jeans.’
And finally, the coming together of Jennie and Doechii for their new single, Extra L. The official video—what made them take the fashion by the horn like that?!! And Schiaparelli? The best choice there is.
I guess that is everything I genuinely loved in the 2nd month of 2025. Happy March, you guys! 💚
You might want to BUY ME COFFEE, thank you!
Cynthia Erivo!! Put me on a spell, I love her style so much.
I enjoyed reading this❤️
Impressive. Enjoyable
" Schiaparelli? The best choice there is. " I love itttt🔥🔥
